Did the Nor’Easter open up a position? Always a bright side of localized disasters, often times a lot of jobs open up....

My supervisor has been out on medical leave for some surgery. I got a temporary promotion and have been filling in for her, and I just got word that upon her return she’s being transferred to another location and my upgrade is being made permanent.

You can buy a new car for which I will carefully look after for you, until such a time comes when your current mode of transportation fails you and the asset will be returned.

I’m now a department head for the grocery store I work at.

this promotion comes with a $2.50/hr raise.
I don’t want to be the bringer of bad news, but 2.50*40(hours)*52(weeks)=$5200, so don’t increase spending with $10k a year.

I made a typo, that should have said 3.5. I also work 5o hours, with 1.5x pay on Sundays and holidays. I’m bringing home just under $200 extra per week.

Ah! Nice. I met my wife working at a grocery store. I actually really miss working in a grocery store. It was just service and customer focus all day long.

Let’s hope that it happens by choice and not out of necessity...

I often tel my wife it was the best job I ever had. She says I’m romanticizing and mis-remembering. But it was low stress, always enough work, my store was unionized so decent pay and I would have been benefits eligible soon enough. The Best way to get ahead was be nice, which I’m good at.

Yeah, I seem to be remember being way happier when I worked in a vegetable store. Healthier too, I got to eat what I wanted, cook what I wanted. It was a short walk from my place.
I will always fondly remember my time there. I was rich in life but poor in money. Kinda the reverse these days it seems.
I worked in a very rustic little shop in my village.

I now work in a law firm where I work for attorneys; so the stress for me, personally, is higher. There is a great thing about retail where you can do what you can and that’s enough, if you’re kind and explain there comes a moment in every interaction where you can say “that’s all I can do”; attorneys seem to regularly want me to do the literal impossible and I need to maintain good relationships not just for my department but because I work with them daily; I have to push much farther before saying “that’s all I can do”. It’s rare to help the same customer day in and day out. I mean day to day customer services has unique challenges but in the manner I worked it wasn’t anywhere close to what I do now.
Probably worth noting, I was a stocker in frozen/dairy when I worked in grocery; not department manager or assistant manager or store manager. Coupon/sale item gone? Apologize and recommend another item or tel them they can ask for a discount on something equivalent at checkout. Understaffed so running like a madman? Apologize often and explain without blame. I didnt take store criticism personally and I can apologize for just about anything. None of it followed me home and little carried on more than a day or two.

I’m the front end manager. I’m in charge of 30-odd people.
![]() 03/07/2018 at 15:38 |

Yeah; so you are not just in customer service you are in charge of how others do customer service; and that is very hard.

Congraturations you should go out and buy a few abandoned projects. *eyes of an angel begins playing* Every year, thousands of project vehicles are left to molder or sent to the crusher. For the small sacrifice of ALLLLL YOUR MONIES you can save one of these wretched jalopies from destruction.
